Frankfurt on the Main, October 2011. During the BVL-Congress 2011 in Berlin, Miebach Consultant Sebastian Hilgert was awarded the “Thesis Award” for his excellent diploma thesis. Since 2010 BVL honors outstanding bachelor, master and diploma theses. All submissions must have practical relevance, be up-to-date and focus on Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Sebastian Hilgert’s diploma thesis met these criteria best and therefore he was invited to the BVL congress where he received the “Thesis Award 2011”. Miebach Consulting congratulates sincerely.
Sebastian Hilgert´s diploma thesis with the title “Development of a heuristic method using the blocking-logic for planning rail freight transports” was nominated by Prof. Clausen, managing director of the Institute of Transportation Logistics (ITL) at the TU Dortmund University. The thesis was written within the department of Corporate Strategy at Deutsche Bahn AG in Frankfurt. In the course of a paradigm shift concerning the scheduling of full-load traffic, new strategies were being developed in order to enhance efficiency. The developed heuristic enables the identification of favorable located nodes for consolidation and determines the associated routing of the wagons. With this new approach, the overall travel distance as well as the number of dockings and rearrangements of trains could be reduced significantly.
Sebastian Hilgert about the award:
“Receiving the Thesis Award is a great honor and an encouragement for the work at Miebach Consulting: We are dealing with complex logistics systems on an everyday basis here as well. While conducting simulation projects, intelligent control logics need to be implemented in order to bring the simulation model to life. With a dynamic analysis of the systems, further insight is being gained and the conclusions can be incorporated during the planning process.”
