Geberit opens new Logistics Center for Europe and the World
Pfullendorf, April 2010. The Swiss company Geberit, European market leader in sanitary technology, inaugurated the new logistics centre in Pfullendorf (Baden Wuerttemberg, Germany) at the end of March. With an investment of EUR 27 million Geberit’s logistics centre has been restructured to an international setup. From ground breaking in June 2008 until completion in 2009, an additional flat storage and a new high bay warehouse with a floor space of approx. 16.600 m² were built.
A wide range of articles will be supplied to more than 5.000 customers from over 100 countries directly from the central distribution warehouse. The implementation of Geberit’s biggest project investment of its history succeeded in collaboration with the logistics experts of Miebach Consulting, Frankfurt, who planned and managed the project.
“As part of restructuring the logistics centre all logistics processes were optimized. Just with the new high bay warehouse the amount of pallet spaces increased by 23.000 units, which enables to store over 7.000 items”, said Ralf Braun, project manager Geberit. Despite its enormous size, the new distribution centre is characterized by dynamic, to meet and guarantee the specific logistics needs of the production company.
Flexible solutions are especially needed for goods out, because high fluctuations require variable reactions. In contrast for the commissioning department a higher automation level with latest engineering technology and information systems ensure smooth processing of more than 35.000 picks and 15.000 pallet transports per day.
Braun resumed at the official opening of the logistics centre about the success of the project:

For the company as well as for the economic location of Pfullendorf the new distribution centre creates value and can be assessed as a benchmark with regard to the logistics industry.
