New development: SAP-LES interface for simulation

Frankfurt on the Main, June 2009. The real-time gap between a warehouse simulation tool and SAP-LES or any comparable warehouse management systems is closed from now on. Miebach Consulting developed and released a state-of-the-art software tool by which customer orders can be transferred from an operative warehouse management system such as SAP-LES to a dynamic simulation model. Dr. Jens Koenig, head of the innovation team “Virtual Engineering” at Miebach Consulting says: „We were able to establish a real-time connection between virtual and real life in the area of logistics planning and execution”.

Koenig describes the tools advantages and requirements as follows: Seasonal peaks are noticeable reflected in order volume for the next days of production. The new simulation tool is now able to bring any available employee into virtual action. Consequently, the warehouse manager will immediately identify operational bottlenecks and notice the possible shortfall of today’s output. Moreover, the software will clarify changes in productivity by short-term mobilisation of additional employees. Here especially it is demonstrably shown that an increase in resources will not automatically result in a linear higher output.

To mention the biggest advantage of the model: Due to stock rotation within a warehouse there is an ongoing shifting of storage zone as i.e. the allocation of ABC zones. The effort to comply with the ABC concept as well as a daily reorganisation of storage zone into an ideal workflow condition is complex and time-consuming. To quantify the efforts’ benefit is not possible without a dynamic simulation model. The Miebach simulation tool is intended to fill this gap, among others, and is able to simulate the rearrangement of a warehouse with real data in real time. Thanks to that functionality the following question can easily be answered in- depth: How much would workflows’ efficiency rise, if stock had been stored in an appropriate ABC concept. Based on that result, a logistics manager can justify his decision whether the effort of a storage zone reorganisation is reasonable and at what time.

The mentioned issues are only some of others interesting and innovative functionalities coming up with the new interface for simulation tools by Miebach Consulting.
