Launch of HAVI's new logistics center in San Fernando de Henares, designed by Miebach

19.03.2026

HAVI, a leading provider of logistics solutions for the foodservice industry, has begun operations at its new central logistics hub serving the Madrid area. The facility, located in San Fernando de Henares, was designed, planned, and implemented with the support of Miebach.

With a floor area of nearly 29,500 m², the new facility offers significant storage capacity and is equipped to handle frozen, refrigerated, and dry goods. It features 30 loading docks and capacity for 22,300 pallets, enabling HAVI to serve more than 400 retail locations across 15 clients.

Sustainability was a key focus in the facility’s design. Features such as solar panels and 100% LED lighting contribute to energy efficiency, while a building management system (BMS) enables intelligent monitoring and optimization of energy consumption.

Initial Situation and Miebach Support

HAVI previously served its customers in central Spain from two warehouses located in Daganzo and Alovera. To expand capacity, create synergies, optimize distribution, and improve service levels, HAVI engaged Miebach to design a single, temperature-controlled logistics center with a high degree of automation that would consolidate operations from both facilities. The two companies had already collaborated on several projects, including in Bulgaria and the Baltic States.

For dry goods, Miebach designed a tunnel picking system with automated replenishment from an ASRS. For refrigerated goods, a goods-to-person (GTP) picking system using AMR technology was implemented. For frozen goods, Miebach designed an ASRS warehouse with shuttle systems for multi-deep storage, including automated replenishment to flow channels and supported by an anthropomorphic depalletizing robot specifically adapted for frozen goods handling.

Miebach is currently finalizing the tender process for the automated chilled goods solution based on an AMR-supported GTP system and is also planning the automation of internal transport using AGVs.

As a result of the project, HAVI has reduced operating costs by approximately 22%, with an estimated payback period of 4.5 years.

Feedback from the project team

According to Luis Miguel Berdasco, Director of Operations at HAVI:

“The launch of this new logistics center marks a key step in the evolution of our distribution network in the Iberian Peninsula. Consolidating our operations into a single platform allows us to increase capacity, improve operational efficiency, and continue offering our customers a reliable and flexible service. In addition, the center’s design incorporates automation and sustainability solutions that reinforce our commitment to a more innovative and responsible supply chain.”

For his part, Rafael Bofill, Director of Engineering at Miebach Spain and project manager, notes:

“This project has been the result of a very smooth collaboration with the HAVI team, with whom we shared a clear vision from the outset regarding what the new center should look like. The goal was to design a flexible, efficient, and scalable platform capable of meeting the business’s current and future operational needs.”
