Looking Beyond the Warehouse: Why I Wanted to Understand the Whole Supply Chain
03.07.2025 | By Lucas Strass, Miebach
After many years working in logistics, especially in intralogistics automation, I eventually reached a point where I wanted to broaden my horizon. I no longer wanted to solely focus on individual processes, but wanted to understand the entire supply chain from start to finish.
Even before officially joining Miebach, I had the opportunity to collaborate with the team on projects in Germany and Poland. These positive experiences only strengthened my desire to make the switch. Everything fell into place perfectly: my first day at Miebach happened to coincide with the week of the company’s 50th anniversary celebration in Frankfurt. It was a happy coincidence and the perfect chance to meet many colleagues from different locations in person.
Having broad industry knowledge with me from the start was definitely an advantage. One thing I particularly value about Miebach is our independent consulting approach. We are not tied to any specific manufacturer, which allows us to objectively assess which solution best fits a project and what level of automation makes sense. Of course, there are tried-and-tested technologies we are familiar with, but at the same time, many providers continue to bring fresh and innovative ideas to the market. This creates exciting opportunities, especially in specialized areas like robotics and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs).
My previous experience working on the supplier side of international logistics projects has also proven to be extremely valuable. Knowing different solutions, their strengths and weaknesses, typical implementation pitfalls, and realistic performance metrics helps enormously in daily project work. Another key asset is a strong network of trusted and knowledgeable contacts within the industry. This is especially helpful when it comes to specific technical questions or getting fast feedback.
What stands out to me at Miebach is the human side of our collaboration. Every day, I encounter an impressive level of expertise and motivation across the team. Personal development is not just encouraged but actively lived, and that makes a real difference. Coming from a detail-focused background, I have learned to step back regularly, seek out other perspectives, and look at the bigger picture.
Today, my workday is much more varied and dynamic than before. Depending on the project and its phase, the focus shifts, which keeps the work interesting. The way we approach projects has also become much more holistic. It is no longer just about technology but also about site conditions, strategic goals, and the customer’s long-term vision.
So far, my expectations have been fully met. We work on a wide range of projects, and at the same time, everyone here has the opportunity to specialize and deepen their expertise in specific areas. The biggest advantage is that we are constantly learning something new across all areas of the supply chain and keeping up with current trends and technologies in an industry that is increasingly becoming a driver of innovation.
